POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Commis Chef supports the kitchen team in delivering high-quality food preparation and service
across à la carte dining, events, and functions. Working under the supervision of senior chefs, this
role focuses on maintaining consistency, efficiency, and compliance within a fast-paced hospitality
environment.
TASKS:
Assist in the preparation and cooking of menu items in accordance with established recipes
and presentation standards
Support senior chefs (Chef de Partie / Sous Chef) in daily kitchen operations
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of workstations in line with food safety and hygiene
regulations
Ensure proper handling, storage, and rotation of stock (FIFO principles)
Contribute to efficient service during busy periods, including functions and peak trading
hours
Assist with basic food preparation tasks such as chopping, portioning, and plating
Monitor stock levels and report shortages or wastage to senior kitchen staff
Follow all Work Health and Safety (WHS) and food safety compliance requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum 1 year experience in a similar role within hospitality environments
Tertiary qualification in Commercial Cookery or a related field
Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, ingredients, equipment, and kitchen operations
Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced setting
Robust knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays
