Known for delivering authentic Dhaba-style Indian cuisine, the restaurant has built a reputation for preparing traditional dishes using quality ingredients, aromatic herbs and spices. The business prides itself on serving food with genuine care and passion, and is seeking a skilled Chef to help maintain its high standards of food quality, consistency and customer satisfaction. The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Prepare and cook authentic Indian dishes to established recipes.
- Plan daily food preparation activities and coordinate kitchen operations.
- Monitor food quality throughout preparation, cooking and presentation stages.
- Ensure meals are prepared consistently to restaurant quality standards.
- Estimate food requirements and assist with ordering kitchen supplies.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels and minimise food wastage.
- Demonstrate cooking techniques and guide junior kitchen staff.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Inspect ingredients to ensure freshness and suitability for service.
- Assist in developing and updating menu offerings when required.
- Coordinate with management regarding menu planning and kitchen operations.
- Monitor portion control and presentation of all completed dishes.
- Store, preserve and rotate food products using approved methods.
- Maintain a clean, organised and efficient kitchen environment.
- Assist with training staff on food preparation procedures and standards. Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:
- Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification relevant to professional kitchen operations and food preparation.
- Minimum one year of experience preparing and cooking meals within a commercial restaurant or hospitality environment.
- Strong knowledge of Indian cuisine, spices, traditional cooking methods and authentic food presentation techniques.
- Ability to manage multiple kitchen tasks efficiently while maintaining high standards during busy service periods.
- Sound understanding of food safety, hygiene regulations and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Experience monitoring food quality, stock control and minimising wastage within a qualified kitchen setting.
- Ability to work collaboratively with management and kitchen staff to achieve operational objectives.
- Robust organisational skills with the ability to plan preparation schedules and maintain kitchen efficiency.
