Experienced Fitter / Metal Machinist – Mining & Gearbox …, Traralgon

DMMeng is expanding, and we’re looking for a highly skilled Metal Machinist / Fitter with solid experience in mining equipment, heavy industrial maintenance, and gearbox rebuilds. If you enjoy complex mechanical work, precision machining, and solving real engineering challenges, you’ll feel right at home here.

About the Role

You’ll work across a wide range of heavy‑duty mechanical and machining tasks, including:

Rebuilding, repairing and overhauling gearboxes, pumps, drives and rotating equipment

Performing maintenance and refurbishment on mining and quarrying machinery

Machining components to tight tolerances

Diagnosing mechanical faults and carrying out repairs independently

Supporting major plant overhauls and shutdown‑style work

Maintaining a secure, clean and organised workshop environment

Full‑time position with regular overtime available. All applications are handled confidentially.

About You

You’re a hands‑on tradesperson with strong mechanical instincts and pride in your workmanship. You bring:

Reliability, punctuality and qualified presentation

Skills & Experience

To be successful, you must have:

Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade

Minimum 5 years’ experience as a fitter or machinist

Proven experience with gearbox rebuilds or rotating equipment

Exposure to mining, quarrying or heavy industrial machinery

Strong commitment to OH&S; and safe work practices

Solid mathematical and measurement skills

Highly regarded but not essential:

Line boring experience

Shutdown or field‑service background

Ability to interpret complex drawings and specifications
