Latrobe Regional Health is a leading provider of health care services across the Gippsland Region. Latrobe Regional Health (LRH) is looking for a Maternal Child Health Nurse to join our growing team on a part‑time basis. About the Role Our 5-bed, 5–6 cot residential unit provides family‑focused inpatient care for parents and infants up to 12 months of age across the Gippsland region. The MBU operates within a strong therapeutic framework informed by the Solihull Approach, attachment theory and mentalisation‑based practice, with a clear focus on strengthening parent–infant relationships. The Maternal Child Health Nurse provides evidence‑based, strength‑based clinical leadership with a dedicated infant focus. This role promotes optimal infant growth, development and wellbeing while supporting parents experiencing perinatal mental health challenges. Key Responsibilities Infant Assessment & Monitoring
- Conduct comprehensive developmental and physical assessments of infants admitted to the MBU.
- Monitor infant growth, health status and developmental milestones.
- Identify early developmental concerns and facilitate appropriate referrals. Parenting Support & Education
- Provide education on infant development, sleep, feeding and nurturing practices.
- Support infant feeding in accordance with the mother’s informed choice.
- Apply attachment theory and infant mental health principles in clinical practice.
- Facilitate or contribute to therapeutic group programs.
- Assess infant wellbeing within the context of parental mental health.
- Identify and respond to emerging safety or developmental concerns.
- Assist in psychiatric or medical emergencies as required. Multidisciplinary Collaboration
- Participate in reviews, care planning and discharge planning.
- Provide education to colleagues regarding infant development.
- Contribute to service development, policy improvement and quality initiatives.
- Build and maintain partnerships with community and private health services. Professional & Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate, timely and objective documentation.
- Comply with NSQHS standards, LRH policies and relevant legislation.
- Participate in mandatory training, performance appraisal and continuous professional development. About you
- Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse.
- Maternal and Child Health qualification.
- Perinatal and Infant Mental Health qualification, or working towards.
- Minimum three years’ clinical experience as a Maternal Child Health Nurse.
- Demonstrated experience working with parents and infants in the perinatal period.
- Solid theoretical and practical knowledge of infant development (0–4 years).
- Current Working with Children Check and Police Check.
- Highly developed communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Experience in quality improvement initiatives.
- Membership of a relevant professional body.
