Genetic Counsellors play a vital role in helping people to make informed decisions about testing, to understand the results in the context of their own lives and their family history and to adjust to or manage the outcomes and implications.

The Genetic Counselling Discipline at UTS was established to help meet the growing need for health professionals with an understanding of genetics and genomics, well-developed communication skills and an evidence-based approach to healthcare delivery. About the role We have an opportunity for a Research Associate / Postdoctoral Research Associate to contribute to research investigating the ethical implementation of reproductive genetic carrier screening in primary care settings. In this role you will actively foster and develop links with industry. You will also contribute to and produce high-quality publications. Although it sits within the Genetic Counselling discipline at UTS, this is a bioethics role and does not require genetic counselling experience or qualifications. About You As a Research Associate / Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will play a pivotal role in research endeavours that demand a high level of expertise. You will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability work closely with health sector and external academic partners in the delivery of practical impact-focused research. To be successful in this role you will have:

A PhD or research experience in area related to ethics and genetics (Philosophy, bioethics, public health ethics)

Demonstrated knowledge of ethics / bioethics and genetic carrier screening

Understanding of the Australian health care system

Some experience of empirical or normative bioethics research, disseminating findings by publication or presentation.

Base Salary Range: $88,273 to $107,511 (Level A) This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary. The position is part time (0.4 FTE) and will be made on a 22-month fixed-term basis.
