About National Trust Queensland & the Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Since its creation in 1989, Currumbin Wildlife Hospital has grown to be one of the busiest wildlife hospitals in the world. In addition, the hospital provides veterinary care to the Sanctuary animal collection and conducts world-leading research and conservation projects. The hospital is located within the grounds of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, one of 12 properties managed by National Trust of Australia Queensland (NTAQ). NTAQ is a membership-based community organisation and registered charity that works to conserve and advance our natural and cultural heritage for future generations To support the ever-increasing expansion of the Wildlife Hospital operations, we have opportunity for an experienced and confident Veterinary Nurse to our highly respected Wildlife Hospital team to support the Reception Team & make a genuine difference. About the Role: The Wildlife Hospital is a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and the Veterinary Nurse, Reception will play a key role in supporting both reception and admissions, particularly during high-volume wildlife intake periods. As a people-focused individual, you will act as the first point of contact, both in person and over the phone, responding to public enquiries regarding injured and displaced wildlife. You will liaise with wildlife care and rescue groups, such as Wildcare, to coordinate admissions and facilitate information sharing, while also assisting with the admission and triage of wildlife patients. The role includes maintaining a professional and well-presented reception and admissions area, as well as providing administrative support to the Wildlife Hospital team, including data entry, scanning, and record management. Reporting directly to the Reception Team Leader, you will contribute to a cooperative team environment while supporting the efficient operation of a high-volume clinical setting. Roster: Week 1 Friday 8am-4.30pm Saturday 8am-5pm Week 2 Thursday 8am-4.30pm Friday 8am-4.30pm Saturday 8am-4.30pm About You: To be successful in this role, you will have previous experience in administration, reception, or a similar within a medical or veterinary establishment and Cert IV in veterinary nursing would be highly desirable. Other key skills and qualifications we are looking for include:
- Demonstrated interest in, and knowledge of, Australian wildlife (experience with wildlife organisations such as Wildcare highly regarded)
- Friendly, professional and empathetic communication style, both in person and over the phone
- Strong computer literacy and accurate administrative skills
- Confidence interacting with members of the public, contractors, and wildlife care and rescue groups
- Ability to remain calm, organised and responsive in a noisy, fast-paced and sometimes emergency-driven environment
- Local area knowledge and understanding of wildlife networks will be highly regarded
