Employment Full time temporary until May 2027 Classification Health Manager Level 1 Salary $87,813.00 – 116,824.00 + Super + Salary packaging Location Waratah Campus Requisition REQ Applications close Thursday 21st May 2026 About the Role Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking an Insurance Claims Officer to join the Insurable Risk unit within Corporate Governance. The unit acts as a centralised claims management service for the District, handling public liability, property, miscellaneous claims and VMO notifications, and supporting administrative processes for coronial investigations and inquests. Key Responsibilities
- Manage insurance claims across the District from commencement through to resolution.
- Analyse complex information to support effective claims management and decision‑making.
- Liaise with internal managers, insurers and legal providers to coordinate claims and legal matters.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with legislative and organisational requirements.
- Coordinate and monitor litigated matters, coronial inquests and related documentation.
- Supervise and support the Insurance Administration Officer.
- Identify opportunities to improve systems and processes to enhance efficiency and compliance. About You We are looking for a proactive and highly organised professional who can manage competing priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy. You Will Bring

- Excellent time management and organisational skills in a high‑volume environment.
- High‑level written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience managing stakeholders and building effective working relationships.
- Experience supervising or supporting staff.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve outcomes.
- Experience in insurance claims, legal administration, governance, risk management or a related field will be highly regarded. About the Team The Insurable Risk Unit is a small, supportive team of three staff who work collaboratively to deliver positive outcomes for the District. Based at Waratah Campus, the team works closely with internal stakeholders, insurers and legal providers to ensure claims are managed effectively and professionally. Why Join HNE Health?
