Description
Overview Stockwork undertaken with horses and dogs – own team is ideal. Room for career progression for the right long‑term applicant. Productive and picturesque Upper Hunter location. We are searching for an enthusiastic, fit, energetic, and experienced Overseer/Assistant Manager to help run the day‑to‑day operations on this scenic property near Merriwa, allowing the owner time to focus on other parts of the business. About the Employer Our clients are a family‑owned and operated mixed farming business with properties near Merriwa and Bundarra. The role is based at "Tullatula" (Aboriginal for Echidna), situated 15 kilometres northeast of Merriwa, in the productive and picturesque Upper Hunter area of NSW. The farm covers some 3,900ha, currently carrying 2,000 Merino ewes for wool production and 600 Shorthorn breeding cows, with 250ha assigned for fodder crop production, finishing livestock on farm. Our client prides itself on being a progressive employer, striving to offer a family‑friendly, fun, professional and welcoming environment. The farming infrastructure is of excellent, modern quality, well‑maintained, with a recently built woolshed, Proway sheep yards, Prattley autodraft, and a weigh crate using Trutest technology. The Role As the successful applicant, you will have sound knowledge of all facets of cattle and sheep/wool production, particularly Merinos, with a high level of competency in mustering livestock on horseback in hilly terrain. Low‑stress stock‑handling skills are a necessity, and a team of working sheepdogs is essential to the success of the role. Exposure to fodder cropping and machinery operations, with a moderate level of experience, is ideal for assisting with the business's fodder production. Reporting to the owner, you will be friendly, reliable and trustworthy, and you will have a genuine enthusiasm for improving and expanding a family farming business that welcomes your thoughts and ideas. You will also be responsible for managing and supervising additional staff, so strong interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt are valuable. Experience with Agriwebb for record‑keeping and data‑collection skills is also an essential part of the role. Perks A competitive salary package will be negotiated based on your experience and skill level, and you will be accommodated in a comfortable, large 3‑bedroom family home with an electricity allowance, an established garden, and school bus access at the front gate. A vehicle, inclusive of fuel, is provided for work purposes. Situated just 10minutes away, Merriwa is a welcoming community with valuable old‑fashioned country charm, offering both primary and secondary education.
