Recruitment information for a Scientific Officer position at North East Water.
Position Information
- $78,527 to $88,313plus 12% superannuation, depending on skills and experience.
- Full time, ongoing (Monday to Friday). Location
- Primarily based in our Regional Headquarters in Wodonga .
- Due to the spread of our service area, the base location for this role is open to discussion with the Coordinator (contact details below).
- This role involves field work with pool vehicles available for any travel required.

North East Water provides water and sewage services to over 110,000 people across 39 towns throughout north east Victoria. This role is an exciting chance to utilise your environment focused mindset and scientific skills to work across our region including our 21 water treatment plants and 22 wastewater treatment plants. You will have access to a diverse range of learning opportunities, allowing you to expand your knowledge and skills in the field of environment and wastewater. The Scientific Officer plays an important role in ensuring compliance with environmental legislative obligations and Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) licences. This will be supported through regular maintenance our Environmental Management System (EMS), reporting, and implementation of improvement programs. The role regularly engages with a variety of stakeholders including the public, regulators and staff to resolve complex environmental problems, and provide specialist advice, reports and information requests on environmental matters. This role is a full-time opportunity, including a monthly RDO and flexible work options. Key Responsibilities
- Monitoring and maintaining our Environmental Management System, including regular review of key registers, corrective actions and external auditing programs.
- Developing and administering environmental and wastewater monitoring programs.
- Preparing reports and information requests for senior management and regulators on environmental matters.
- Developing, facilitating and preparing environment and human health risk assessment reports.
- Developing and reviewing environmental procedures.
- Responsible for the scoping and timely delivery of environmental consultancies and projects that meet environmental objectives.
- Scheduling and prioritising your own work to manage routine tasks and projects from conception to completion. For further detail on the role, please refer to the position description below. - Knowledge and experience of an environmental management system including environmental legislation and an understanding of how it would apply to North East Water.
