About the Role HMI is seeking an experienced Metal Fabricator to support fabrication activities associated with marine engineering projects, including vessel repair, structural steelwork, and piping systems. The role includes cutting, shaping, assembling, repairing, and welding metal components used in marine applications. Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Interpret engineering drawings, technical plans, and marine specifications to determine fabrication requirements.
- Measure, mark out, and prepare metal stock for fabrication of structural and vessel-related components.
- Cut, shape, and form metal materials using fabrication equipment.
- Fabricate and assemble structural steel components and marine-related metal structures.
- Fit and assemble fabricated parts for vessel piping systems and structural applications.
- Undertake repair, modification, and maintenance of existing metal structures and marine components.
- Perform welding as required using TIG, MIG, Stick.
- Inspect fabricated components for accuracy and compliance with specifications and tolerances.
- Work in accordance with Australian Standards (including AS1554 and AS4100) and internal quality procedures.
- Maintain a protected work environment in line with workplace health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and project teams to meet project deadlines. Minimum Requirements
- Relevant trade qualification (Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade or equivalent), or at least 3 years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated experience in metal fabrication within structural, industrial, or related environments
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Experience using fabrication tools and workshop equipment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Sound understanding of workplace health and safety practices
- Experience in marine engineering, vessel repair, or shipyard environments, highly desirable.
- Exposure to fabrication of vessel piping systems or marine structural components, highly desirable. Why Join HMI
