- $140,849 plus superannuation The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committee
- Executive Officer, North Metropolitan (RAJAC EO), to provide a critical role within Koori Justice Unit. This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under ‘special measures' of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply. About the Business Unit The Aboriginal Justice group drives systemic change in the justice system, by connecting, supporting and delivering better outcomes for the Aboriginal community. We partner with Traditional Owners and the Victorian Aboriginal community to enable them to self-determine their role in policy and services within the justice sector. We collaborate with our colleagues across government to establish strong connections and build capability and awareness that Aboriginal business is everyone's business. The Koori Justice Unit (KJU) is a unit within the Aboriginal Justice Group of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS), which has been established to help realise a clear vision of a fair and accessible justice system for Aboriginal people. About the Role The primary focus of the RAJAC Executive Officer is to support the effective operation of the Regional Aboriginal Advisory Committee (RAJAC) for the North Metropolitan Region of the Department of Justice and Community Safety, and to ensure the active participation and engagement of the Aboriginal community in the Aboriginal Justice Agreement (AJA). The AJA has established extensive Government and Community networks through the Aboriginal Justice Forum (AJF), Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committee (RAJAC) Network and the Local Aboriginal Justice Action Committees (LAJAC) and uses them to effectively deliver initiatives including early intervention and prevention programs, diversion initiatives, and rehabilitation and reintegration support. The primary focus of the RAJAC EO is to lead the effective operation of the RAJAC and the LAJAC to ensure the active participation and engagement of the Aboriginal community in the AJA. The position is also a key member of the Region's Executive Leadership Team, which has overall responsibility for the management and direction of regional operations. As the RAJAC EO you will is responsible for the development and strengthen the supportive li nkages between justice agencies and community organisations, providing policy advice, implementing the Regional Justice Plan, providing secretariat services to the RAJAC chair, RAJAC members and promoting all AJA initiatives within the region. You will be required regularly reporting in preparation for multiple different forums such as the Aboriginal Justice Forum, Aboriginal Justice Caucus. This role requires highly developed project management and/or policy development skills as well as solid written communication skills for the preparation of project plans, briefs and reports. The position is a key member of the North Metropolitan region that has overall responsibility for the management and direction of regional operations. Regional travel is required and a full driver's licence will be required. Some of your duties will include:
- Provide key support, secretariat services and advice to the RAJAC, RAJAC chair including the preparation of meeting papers, reporting, briefing, agenda, venue booking, catering and minute taking.
- Pro-actively build and maintain effective relationships with relevant working parties, internal stakeholders and external stakeholders including Aboriginal community organisations or representatives and develop options for implementing innovative strategies to facilitate a partnership approach.
- Maintain regular contact with the Chairperson of the Northern Metropolitan RAJAC to uphold the partnership and implementation of AJA. About you To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal community and the issues impacting community.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal community.
- Knowledge and understanding of the interface between Aboriginal issues and Government and service priorities. Qualifications
- Related qualifications and/or experience is desirable.
