Typically to start a career in Administration and Support, you will need a high school diploma or equivalent. A degree in office administration or similar would be helpful but not always necessary. There are also training courses in secretarial and administrative work which can help to give your resume a leg up on the competition.

Useful skills for an administrative role:

  • You like working with people, you display great communication and interpersonal skills
  • You’re organized and can manage your time well
  • You have advanced computer and typing skills
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office

Depending on the level of the role, there may be higher expectations with your experience. Some companies want candidates that have a bachelor’s degree, previous experience as an office administrator, advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and similar software, and more.
